NDP 2025 marked Singapore’s 60th birthday, and this year’s SG60 celebrations were absolutely unforgettable. I had the privilege of soaking in the magic both in person and at home, and each experience felt equally moving in its own way.
On 2 August, I attended the final NDP 2025 rehearsal at The Padang. The atmosphere was electric - fireworks, lights, the sea of red and white, and my favourite part, the National Day singalongs. There’s something incredibly powerful about thousands of voices uniting under the Singapore sky. When the new NDP 2025 theme song, “Where We Are” by Charlie Lim, began to play, the entire crowd was swept into a wave of emotion. The melody and lyrics perfectly captured the pride, hope, and togetherness that SG60 stands for.
On 9 August, I hosted a cosy National Day Parade watch party at home. Watching NDP 2025 on TV had its own magic - close-ups of the performances, aerial shots of the fireworks, and the smooth commentary that kept the energy alive.
Some highlights from this year’s SG60 parade that I’ll never forget:
The veterans’ tribute, honouring those who laid the foundations for Singapore’s success.
More singalongs (because one round is never enough).
The special appearance of Electrico, a band I loved back in my secondary school days, performing with the same energy and charm I remembered.
And of course, Dick Lee making his grand entrance on a giant balloon, a moment that only NDP could pull off so effortlessly.
During the rehearsal, I captured a photo that instantly sparked inspiration. I have turned it into a Pillybaxtoodles-style National Day doodle, bringing SG60 to life in my whimsical, Singapore-inspired art style.
Happy 60th birthday, Singapore. Here’s to more years of unity, music, and the unmistakable magic of NDP.
